ClubLeabhar.com is delighted to announce that over 2,000 people have watched the interviews we’ve done regarding the books of the month since this new aspect of the project commenced at the beginning of the series in September. It’s clear from the feedback we’ve received from club members that they’ve been very interested in what authors, editors and literary critics have had to say about the books of the month and about literary matters in general. If you haven’t seen the interviews yet, you can watch all of them by clicking on this link.
We have two new video interviews in this edition of Nuachtlitir Ghaelchultúir; we hope you enjoy them!
ClubLeabhar.com’s book of the month for April was I gCóngar i gCéin and Michelle Ryan, administrator of the club, recently met the author, Fr Pádraig Standún. He spoke about Venice - the city in which the book is set - about writing in a language which is not his mother tongue and about the advice he would give to people who are interested in creative writing. You can watch the interview by clicking on the play button in the video below.
Beirt Bhan Mhisniúla by Pádraig Ó Siadhail is the book of the month for May on ClubLeabhar.com. Pádraic Ó Conaire, one of the leading authors in contemporary Irish-language literature, and two of the women in his life, Caitlín Ní Aodha and Mary Morrison, are the central characters in this historical novel which was awarded a prize for “Best Novel – Literary Fiction” in the Oireachtas Literary Competition in 2010. As usual, there’s a passage from the book as well as a comprehensive glossary on ClubLeabhar.com.
Ó Siadhail is an Associate Professor of Irish at St. Mary’s University in Canada and Michelle Ryan interviewed him during a recent visit he made to Ireland. He spoke to her about the difficulty of combining fact and fiction in a historical novel and about the challenges associated with writing about the literary hero Pádraic Ó Conaire.
