Certificate in Professional Irish proves popular in Mayo County Council

Gaelchultúr has been offering the Certificate in Professional Irish in Mayo County Council since 2015 and 120 employees, from every section in the organisation, have now undertaken the course. Nuachtlitir Ghaelchultúir recently spoke to Marian Uí Mháille from the Council’s Irish Language Office to find out about their future plans for the language.

The Certificate in Professional Irish: a student's perspective

Christine Murphy works with Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and had few opportunities to practise her Irish – until the Certificate in Professional Irish became available in the organisation last autumn. Nuachtlitir Ghaelchultúir spoke to her to find out how she felt about returning to the language.

Gaelchultúr’s Postgraduate Diploma in Translation: Scholarship and entry process

This autumn, Coláiste na hÉireann/Gaelchultúr will again be offering the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and a scholarship (i.e. the course without the fees) will be awarded to one student on the programme.

Internship scheme in the EU Institutions

Those interested in working with one of the EU institutions in the future now have an opportunity to gain valuable experience in one of those institutions, thanks to an internship scheme being run by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht since last year. Nuachtlitir Ghaelchultúir spoke to Áine Mills, a Trinity College Dublin graduate who recently took part in the scheme, to find out how she found the experience.

Tionól Gaeilge UCD to take place again this year

For a third year in a row, Bord na Gaeilge UCD will be running a summer school, Tionól Gaeilge, in the university. This school, which is being organised by the Bord in conjunction with Gaelchultúr, will take place on the Belfield campus between Monday, 1 July and Friday, 5 July.

An Asturian's experience of learning Irish

Last year Sergio Fernández Redondo from Asturias in northern Spain completed Level 3 of the Certificate in Professional Irish. He recently spoke to Nuachtlitir Ghaelchultúir about undertaking the course and his experience of learning Irish.

A brand new ClubLeabhar.com series has begun this month and we’re focusing on six different works as our Book of the Month between now and June. From translations to newly written works, novels to short stories, we have a compelling mixture of books that will undoubtedly spark debate and contemplation about a wide range of fascinating themes and questions.
