Covid-19 has disrupted all aspects of life, including education, but because of Coláiste na hÉireann/Gaelchultúr’s many years of experience of online teaching, the institute will be able to offer the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation again this autumn – despite the restrictions that are in place throughout the country.
Coláiste na hÉireann/Gaelchultúr has been offering the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation since 2013 and the course will be available again this year, from September. Nuachtlitir Ghaelchultúir spoke to a former student, Ian Mac Murchaidh, who now works as a translator in the European Commission, to find out how the course benefitted him.

Due to the pandemic, Gaelchultúr ran its summer Irish course online rather than in the classroom and, as people all over the world were able to attend the classes, the number of learners increased significantly. However, it was not just the learners who benefitted from this new model of course delivery: it also benefitted the teachers, as this article by one of Gaelchultúr’s teaching staff, Ruth Nic Giolla Iasachta, shows.

In this new online series, we follow the story of a young couple as they try to sustain their newly-formed relationship and adapt to life during the lockdown. The eight short episodes are presented in the form of Zoom calls between the two lead characters and the acting is brilliant in every episode. There is both humour and sadness in this realistic depiction of love in the age of technology and it is well worth watching!
