Irish language events:
Bewley's @6!

The autumn series of Gael Linn’s monthly music event, Bewley’s @6!, will commence on Tuesday, 27 September 2011.

Appearing at the first concert in the new series will be Mick O’Brien (uilleann pipes/whistles) and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh (fiddle/whistle). These two highly accomplished musicians recently released an album called Aoibhinn Crónán/Deadly Buzz, which has received rave reviews from critics and fellow musicians alike.

The event will be held between 6.00–8.00 p.m., in Bewley’s Theatre, in the historic café on Dublin’s Grafton Street. Admission is €15 (including finger food). The bar will be open during the concert and tea and coffee will also be available.

This monthly event is an excellent opportunity for Irish speakers to meet up and use the language, according to Gael Linn’s Niamh de Búrca.

“Members of the Irish language community in Dublin have a chance to get together after a day’s work (or a day’s shopping!),” says Niamh, “get away from the traffic congestion, have a drink, eat some nice food and enjoy really excellent music. The venue itself is beautiful and musicians love playing there because there’s always a really nice atmosphere.

“This event has been a great success since we first started it in January 2008; it’s been so popular, in fact, that we’ve had to turn people away at times. It’s very important, therefore, to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment when you get to the venue.”
