Newsletter #33: January 2016

Link of the month - Léigh Linn

Léigh Linn is a website that was launched at the end of 2015 to encourage and promote reading in Irish. It is a project of Aisling Productions, and is funded by Clár na Leabhar Gaeilge and sponsored by The Irish Times.

Léigh Linn is a reading resource. It provides some initial chapters from Irish-language books for free in e-book form, so as to encourage people to read that part of the story and to go on to buy the book. The same chapters are also provided in audiobook form, so that you can listen to the text as you read. There is another interesting element to this reading experience – a video with commentary on the story by Alan Titley accompanies each chapter.

There are currently two books available on the website: Buille Marfach (2010) by Anna Heussaff and Rún an Bhonnáin (2010) by Proinsias Mac a’ Bhaird. As well as the chapters, sound files and videos being provided for both books, there is also some introductory information about the stories, as well as a review of each book and interviews with both authors.

Léigh Linn intends to put more books on the website gradually, and they welcome suggestions as to which books should be chosen. You can send suggestions to
