Every summer Gaelchultúr welcomes learners from all over the country to Irish-language evening classes but, this year, more people than ever before will have the opportunity to do Irish classes with us. For the first time this summer, we will be making live Irish classes for adults available online and we will be catering for learners all over the world who are interested in learning Irish.
This is the most comprehensive online Irish course that has ever been made available and there will be classes for all levels of proficiency. There will be classes suitable for complete beginners, those who have some Irish, for fluent speakers and for those who want to improve their grammatical accuracy in the language. There will be 8 different classes available at the following levels:
• Lower Intermediate
• Upper Intermediate
• Advanced 1
• Advanced 2
• Accuracy in Irish 1
• Accuracy in Irish 2
As well as that, there will be classes both during the week and at the weekend so there will certainly be a class for you!
The course will last for ten weeks and you have will have a two-hour class once a week. The course will start the week beginning the 25 May. To attend the live online classes, all you need is a headset with a microphone (with a USB connection, if possible), a laptop or a desktop computer and a reasonably good broadband connection.
“Gaelchultúr’s evening classes have been going from strength to strength in recent years and we are delighted that we will now be able to offer Irish classes to learners throughout the world”, says Éamonn Ó Dónaill, Director of Education, Gaelchultúr. “It doesn’t matter if you are just starting your language learning journey or if you want to perfect your language skills, we have a class for everyone, and this is a great way to make the most of this period when we are all staying at home”.
Gaelchultúr have been offering language classes for adults for the past fifteen years and we have developed excellent resources during that time. There is a great emphasis on the spoken language and an encouraging, fun and learner-centred learning environment is created in the classes. There will be no change to this learning approach as the classes are taught online. Highly qualified teachers will be teaching the classes and, even though the learners will not be in the same room, the classes will be very interactive. There will be plenty of opportunities to speak in the classes – learners will work either in pairs or in groups and will have the chance to raise a virtual hand and ask the teacher questions orally. A digital booklet will be sent to the learners before the start of the course and they will be able to use that material during the classes and to do further study from week to week.
The public will have the opportunity to try a sample class before the start of the course. Gaelchultúr will offer 30-minute classes online to give a taste of our teaching style. This online event, A Taste of Irish, is being organised between 3.00pm and 5.00pm (Irish time), Saturday, 9 May. If you would like to attend one of the sample classes, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5.00pm, Friday, 8 May.
