With Christmas around the corner, now is the best time to consider presents to buy for the important people in your life. It can be much harder to buy presents for Irish speakers!

Where could I get him a Gaeilge-themed present?

What would he even like?

A dictionary, maybe?

Are Foclóir Uí Dhónaill and Foclóir de Bhaldraithe the same thing?

The Gift of Gaeilge: Irish-Language Gift Recommendations

This is but a small taste of the thousands of questions we face while trying to buy a Christmas present for a Gaeilgeoir! But not to worry! Gaelchultúr has put in all the hard work for you. (You can thank us later!) Here’s a list of recommendations we put together for Irish-language presents. There are plenty of courses, games, books, and products available to suit every Gaeilgeoir, from budding beginners to seasoned speakers.

‘For the Primary School Teacher: Gníomhaíochtaí Gasta’

This is a brilliant classroom resource that any teacher would like! Suitable for pupils from 3rd to 6th classes in both T1 and T2 schools, this book contains 60 communication activities to encourage primary school students to speak in Irish. With these exercises they can achieve fluency and accuracy in Irish and develop communication skills in a fun, interactive way, making this handbook the perfect classroom companion.

‘For the Young Child: Amhrán is Fiche don Nollaig (CD)’

Introduce Irish to your little tots with Christmas songs they’re already familiar with, but in Irish! You can play backing tracks without the singers so you can sing along, Karaoke style, and other features on the CD include printable versions of the lyrics and English-language translations. Put it on during your car journey or before bedtime and inspire a love of Irish through the seasonal spirit!

‘For the Tween: The Book Series ‘The Secret Seven’ and ‘The Famous Five’’

They’re oldies but they’re goodies – enable the next generation of young readers to fall in love with these Enid Blyton classics. The book series The Secret Seven and The Famous Five both act as a good introduction to the mystery genre for children. They’ll simultaneously develop their taste in literature and their reading comprehension skills in Irish.

‘For the Wordle lover: The Board Game ‘Imeartas Focal’’

You’ll have plenty of craic (and hopefully not too many rows!) next game night with the word game Imeartas Focal. As in the English-language game Dingbats, there are 200 words and sentences in this game, but each one is changed, hidden, twisted… and the players have to make sense of them. This is a game that will get you thinking about Irish in a new and unique way!

‘For the bookworm: The Novel ‘Aiséirí’’

‘Aiséirí’ is a tale of romance and coffee by Alex Hijmans and is perfect for the gloomy winter days. You’d be delighted to cosy up by the fire with this heart-warming tale. (Cup of coffee not included, unfortunately!)

‘For the learners and grammarians: Gift Voucher for Ranganna.com’

Another option is to give the gift of the language itself with a course on Ranganna.com, our eLearning website. Ranganna.com hosts a variety of courses to suit every level and this voucher will open the door to a world of online resources and interactive lessons under expert guidance, ensuring a personalised and effective language learning experience.

We hope our list managed to solve your Gaeilgeoir-gifting dilemma? Better yet, we’ve created a link so that you can get everything listed right now online! Be on the lookout on Siopa.ie and Ranganna.com, especially to avail of our special deals on Black Friday! Happy shopping!
