International Irish Language Summer School for Adults
If you’re looking for a truly unique, authentic cultural experience this summer, we recommend registering for University College Dublin’s Irish language summer school, Tionól Gaeilge UCD. Organised by Gaeltacht UCD in conjunction with Gaelchultúr, Tionól Gaeilge is an immersive five-day Irish language school which welcomes adult learners from all over the world to enhance their Irish language skills and experience the rich culture associated with the language. This year, the theme of the week focuses on The Irish Language in a Sustainable Global Society.
University College Dublin (UCD) is Ireland’s Global University and is currently ranked within the top 1% of institutions worldwide. The University’s Irish language summer school has been a massive success since its establishment in 2017, attracting Irish language enthusiasts from all over the world.
Tionól Gaeilge UCD is aimed at adults in Ireland and abroad who are interested in the Irish language and in Irish culture. It will also suit students, both domestic and international students, who are studying Irish as a subject or undertaking an Irish Studies degree. This year the language school will be held between 27 June and 1 July and boasts a jam-packed scheduled of classes and cultural events.
Language classes will be held each day, Monday to Friday, from 9.30am until 1.00pm. Classes will be offered at five levels so whether you’re a complete beginner or a competent speaker there is a class to suit your language requirements. These classes are developed and delivered by Gaelchultúr, the world’s largest provider of Irish language classes and the only Irish language third-level college.
Lectures will take place every afternoon from Monday to Thursday. Each lecture will focus on a different aspect of the language and its associated culture, from place names and literature to music and much more. Lectures will be delivered by guest speakers, those with an expert knowledge of their subject. The evening will conclude with a cultural social event
Tionól Gaeilge UCD is an initiative of Gaeltacht UCD - the University’s Global Centre for Irish Language and Culture. The school is in Belfield, the University’s main campus which is situated in a beautiful 133-hectare parkland setting with a 9km woodland walkway and a 50-metre swimming pool. The campus is within easy access of Dublin city centre.
